"Synesthesia" is marvelous. I think you've really conveyed the sense of crossover of the senses of touch and sight well with the magnifying thingy emphasizing the letters, and the placement of the hands.

I love the weaving that's your main picture, too. Great use of color creates a very textural look.

I'm having a little trouble with the linked together sweaters, though. Best friends? Twins? Something more sinister?

The sweaters are a little bit off the course of my usual work, kind of an experiment. I was thinking alot about gender roles, and how they change from childhood to adult hood, that is to say...
as children we are self separating, or more often separated by societies expectations of us. Little boys and little girls have different games, clothes, toys... different images they are given to express themselves. At this stage little boys are meant to idolize men, to be interested in strength, pride, power... heroes from hollywood movies and cartoons.
However, at a certain point they're supposed to become interested in girls, and if their interest in boys grows into romantic love and lust, it is suddenly deemed unacceptable by society.... you get where this is going?
I guess I wanted to knit some conjoined sweaters with iconic boy imagery, to symbolize a certain type of childlike homosexuality...
not the most successful piece, but something to investigate

The main picture is titled "truthliesfalse" it is hand dyed and hand woven, and the colors spell out words, determined by my own synesthesia.
I suppose I should have put a caption...
      Thanks!

OK, with that explanation, it makes much more sense. It's quite intriguing. Actually, if I'd thought about it further, and it hadn't been so late at night, I may have actually figured it out. I actually think it's pretty successful, although I question the idea of homosexuality at the age that the images evoke. But maybe that's the whole point, I suppose, that it's latent in there?

I can also see a lot of opportunities to play with relative sizes of the two sides, the images on them, etc., to explore various facets of male homosexuality, or to expand further into a series covering an assortment of "deviant" sexual behaviors including both genders and various ages and combinations. For example, you've already got one side a little bit larger than the other. One possibility would be to make it *noticeably* larger, and maybe use an image of a more adult toy, say, a fancy car, and you'd be going down the path of NAMBLA. Controversial to say the least, but it could be interesting.

The black and white stripes bring to mind prison uniforms, which speaks further about the kind of rigid gender expectations we have, being in the closet, etc., and could take on even more sinister connotations with the adult/child idea, being a much more literal interpretation of what could result. Was that association intentional?

There's also something very intriguing about the way you've chosen to display the piece, the way the hangers are bent up and imperfect, and facing the same direction. I like it a lot.

The other pieces are pretty, but this one makes you think, and makes contact on a gut level, even without there being a title. That's something I always like to see in art. Sometimes titles get in the way of really seeing and experiencing a piece, don't you think?

OTOH, now that you've told me what the main image is, it takes on a whole new level of interest, and I'm dying to see a translation.

I think perhaps the sweaters are the easiest to translate in a 2d image, whereas a lot of my other work needs to be seen in person. Also, most of the work that i do takes a long time, so much of what i have posted is more like skethces for things to come... the sweaters are just such a complete statement, you know?
And the idea of Homosexuality at that age IS uncomfortable for us, precisely because we segregate boys and girls so much sociall at that age, BECAUSE we expect that they will be heterosexual... you know?
A lot of my work is made intuitively, I see images and textures, colors in my head, and then feel compelled to create them... Often the meaning is revealed to me as I make it or after it:s complete... so I know that making this piece in Black and White was essential, but I can:t tell you exactly why.
